Identity Theft, tips and safe guards 20; California’s Security Freeze

Published by privacylawadvocatelda at 11:33 am under privacy law Edit This

In California people now have a right to put a security freeze on their credit file. This is especially good if you have experienced identity theft because it will prevent criminals from opening credit accounts in your name. The credit security freeze does require filing a request with the big three credit tracking companies. TheĀ  credit security freeze also will prevent you from opening a credit account yourself with businesses. Credit security freeze should only be used when necessary and is not a be all end all way of protecting yourself from identity theft, but it can be a good tool to use when dealing with identity theft related issues.
