Identity Theft, tips and safe guards 18; Terrorists and Punishment

  Consumers should learn about and understand their legal rights in every area of prevention, detection and resolution in order to protect themselves against identity theft and identity fraud.  In 2004 President Bush signed into law H.R. 1731, the Identity Theft Penalty Enhancement Act (ITPE), which requires a mandatory five-year prison for criminals convicted of using or providing fake IDs to help terrorists. The ITPE enhances existing penalties for the crime of identity theft,  establishes aggravated identity theft as a criminal offense, and establishes mandatory penalties for aggravated identity theft. ITPE also prescribes prison sentences for those who use identity theft to commit other crimes, including terrorism. For further information check out:
