Identity Theft, tips and safe guards 17; Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act

The first thing a parent can do to protect their child from identity theft is to know their rights and demand others respect these rights. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a Federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. FERPA protects children from the divulging by school employees to other than their parents,  any information regarding their home life, grades or behaviors. FERPA also allows parents who have concerns about their children’s inaccurate school records to have their concerns addressed by a hearing board.
